Dialing in: ‘Masters of Time’ debuts at SHAPE Gallery

Time is a fascinating thing; and so is watchmaking!

The “Masters of Time: Unveiling of the Watchmaking Process” exhibit by Avance made its debut at the SHAPE Gallery Friday evening. The opening ceremony began at 6:30 p.m. and quickly became a popular event, attracting a large crowd.

Jazz music swung as viewers admired the various photographs of the Swiss-made watches. Different versions of the watches were on display throughout the gallery. The concept work of each watch as well the design process were also on display in graphite sketches.

The photographs demonstrated each watch in different scenarios. In one photograph titled “Racing Against tThe Clock,” a man was shown driving an expensive-looking car while wearing one of the watches.

In another cleverly titled photograph, “On The Move,”, a closeup of a man lacing up his shoes while wearing one of the watches, displayed the watch in clear detail.

Other photographs took a creative approach to showcase the watches. In one titled “Chrono & Coffee,” one of the watches was surrounded by coffee beans, creating a stark contrast between it and the background.

The concept and design work around the gallery demonstrated the art of watchmaking, while the final products on display showcased how the process all tied together. The watchmaking process is a hidden yet intriguing art.

The “Masters of Time” exhibit will be on display in the SHAPE Gallery from Sept. 20 through Oct. 18.
